Justin Ganly, Managing Director

Prior to establishing Deep End Services in 2003, Justin had nine years of retail & property consulting experience with KPMG and Coopers & Lybrand Consultants. During that time he worked for clients such as Gandel, Lend Lease, AMP Henderson, Leda, Big W, Franklins, Bunnings, Rebel Sport, Freedom, Strandbags, Terry White, Australia Post & Reading Cinemas.

Justin also worked as Coles Myer's real estate analyst during 1998, building sales forecasting models for Coles, Bi-Lo, Target and Kmart.

He has travelled extensively for his clients throughout his career and has detailed knowledge of all markets within which Deep End Services provides consulting services.

He was also one of the first analysts in Australia to work with leading-edge software such as MapInfo which has revolutionalised the way in which location-based consulting is now carried out. Importantly, he still works with the software each day and understands the ways in which it can be most efficiently utilised.

Justin is a regular contributor on retail and retail property issues for the Australian Financial ReviewThe Australian and BRW and is a member of the Advisory Board at MAB Corporation.

Chris Abery, Principal

chris-abery.jpgChris is a leading retail property analyst with over 23 years experience in consulting and corporate roles.

Chris joined Deep End Services in June 2009 from Urbis, where he was a Director in the Property Economics team from March 2007 - May 2009. During that time, Chris lead projects for national retailers and shopping centre owners and developers throughout Australia including economic impact assessments, market demand studies, retail planning and scheme assessments, due diligence reports, network analysis and new store sales forecasting. Key clients included Westfield, KFC, Coles Group, Stockland, Leighton, Centro, Australand and Delfin.

Prior to this, Chris held senior roles for 14 years in the property team at Coles Myer Ltd where, as National Manager Strategy and Property Analysis, he lead the team responsible for network planning, site analysis and new store sales forecasting across the group. He also provided strategic and market advice on major property and business acquisitions and on key planning and policy issues.

From 1985-1992, Chris was employed as a strategic planner with Ratio Consultants specialising in retail demand studies, impact assessments and economic analysis for shopping centre and government clients.

Chris has travelled widely throughout Australia and New Zealand and gathered an extensive knowledge of retail networks, shopping centre locations and industry issues. He has appeared as an advocate for clients before Government and regulatory authorities and as an expert witness in town planning hearings.

Martin Hogarth, Senior Associate

martin-hogarth.jpgMartin joined Deep End Services in 2005 from Pilot Research & Planning where he worked as a senior consultant for two years. During that time he assisted national retailers such as:

  • Mitre 10 – detailed network planning for the rollout of the Mitre 10 Mega format
  • Terry White Chemists & Chemmart – sales forecasting for new & existing stores
  • Coles Myer – liquor store network planning (six month secondment)

Prior to Pilot, Martin worked with the Mayne Group & FH Faulding where he was responsible for provision of all market research and data requirements for the maintenance and development of the groups’ retail pharmacy networks. During those four years, Martin gained experience in dealing with specialty shop location issues right around Australia.

Martin is an experienced consultant with detailed knowledge of all required technical tools such as MapInfo.

Having worked at a retailer for a considerable amount of time, Martin provides an important dimension to the Deep End Services team.

Trudy Rigoni, Senior Associate

trudy-rigoni.jpgTrudy joined Deep End Services in 2005 from Affinity Health where she worked as a business analyst for four years. At Affinity, Trudy was responsible for a wide range of roles including the planning and management of the company’s hospital network. This included determination of the size and range of services offered at each one of the company’s 50 hospitals located throughout Australia.

Prior to Affinity, Trudy worked as a senior network planning analyst for Ansett – Air New Zealand Airlines and also as a market analyst for The Woolmark Company.

Trudy possesses a great depth of knowledge of issues regarding a range of Australian consumer and services companies. Coupled with her economics grounding and excellent MapInfo capabilities, she complements the existing skills available at Deep End Services and, importantly, adds to the range of industries in which the team has detailed knowledge.

John Deane, Senior Associate

john-deane.jpgJohn joined Deep End Services in July 2007 and brings with him more than 20 years experience in the retail and property industry.

Most recently, John worked with Coles Group as a strategic analyst where he was instrumental in developing and refining national locational strategies for a suite of retail businesses, enhanced his technical skills to facilitate work on individual site assessments and gained a comprehensive understanding of the Australian retail market.

During his 14 years at Coles Group, John also worked in property management, securing sites for a number of Coles Group businesses and had extensive experience in lease administration.

Prior to Coles, John also worked for Woolworths in store management.

John has completed an MBA and also has formal qualifications in economic geography.

Alexandra Hopley, Senior Associate

Prior to joining to Deep End Services, Alexandra had 15 years of retail and property market experience with Urbis, providing specialised economic advice to the retail and shopping centre industries on a range of major development projects in Australia.

During her time at Urbis, Alex also spent 3 years in the London office providing advice on major retail and shopping centre projects throughout the United Kingdom.

While at Urbis, Alex provided advice to shopping centre owners, developers, managers and retailers. She prepared advice for clients such as QIC, Westfield, FKP, Woolworths, Dexus and Walker Corporation. She was also extensively involved in the Urbis Retail Averages publication.

In particular, Alex has expertise in the following areas:

  • Market demand assessments and forecasting
  • Need, demand and impact assessments for major new property developments
  • Site location assessments and evaluation strategies
  • Due diligence reviews
  • National retail location strategies
  • Turnover and rental income analysis and forecasting
  • Shopping centre performance benchmarking and analysis

Anna Kilroy, Senior Associate

Anna joined Deep End Services in February 2012 after 5 years with Coles supermarkets, having led the Network Planning - Strategy & Business Development team, responsible for future portfolio strategy, site assessment and sales forecasting, refurbishment planning and analysis, format strategy and store performance improvement initiatives.

Prior to this, Anna worked in the UK for 6 years at major retailers Tesco UK (UK Site and Strategic Research) and electricals retailer Dixons Stores Group (UK & Europe).

Key areas of expertise include retail property strategy and network planning; site assessment and sales forecasting; skilled analysis of customer & market data; portfolio performance analysis to deliver store sales improvement strategies; support and advisory to key retail business functions including local area marketing, merchandise planning, retail operations and format innovation.

Having worked within multi-national retailers across a range of formats and geographies, Anna complements the existing skills available at Deep End Services.

Liz Migliorini, Senior Associate

Liz is based in Sydney and contracted to Deep End Services from March 2006 to July 2010 when she joined us a Senior Associate.

She has eight years of property economics consulting experience, previously working for EDAW ( Hong Kong), Urbis ( Melbourne) and KPMG Consulting (Melbourne). During this time she has worked on a wide range of projects covering retail, industrial, tourism, office, retirement and childcare property needs and issues.

Liz's background is in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and she specialises in network and location-based analysis.

Nanda Wong, Office Manager

Nanda joined Deep End Services in 2006 with experience in roles such as management, administration and research in fields as diverse as:

  • Importation
  • Hospitality
  • Energy

Nanda brings a broad range of office management skills and technical skills to Deep End Services.  She has formal qualifications in science, maths, IT and business administration and has completed her MBA.

Mandy St Leger, Executive Assistant

Mandy joined Deep End Services in 2008 from MAB Corporation, a leading Melbourne based property development firm where she worked as an EA for 5 years and has a wealth of experience in office administration.

Mandy performed a wide range of high level administrative functions for the senior executives of the company and was involved in developing and executing comprehensive board reports, business plans and presentations.

Prior to MAB, Mandy worked for a leading software provider, famous3D, where she was responsible for coordinating overseas tradeshows, promotional events and conducted software testing for launch releases.

Danielle Deane, Contractor

Danielle has been contracting to Deep End Services since March 2008.

She has been involved in collecting and collating surveys for the Australian Sporting Goods Association (ASGA) and the Snowsports Industries of Australia (SIA).  Surveys are undertaken on a monthly, quarterly, half yearly or annual basis.  Danielle ensures that this confidential data is handled appropriately and results provided to the client in a timely manner.

Cody Phelan, Analyst

Cody has been working with Deep End Services on a part-time basis since 2006 and has recently completed a Geospatial Science degree at RMIT University.

During those five years, Cody has gained experience in dealing with issues such as specialty shop locations across Australia and New Zealand, as well as detailed knowledge of technical tools such as MapInfo.

Cody has contributed to the development and creation of complex thematic maps for clients such as Aldi, Spotlight, Woolworths and for The Bulky Goods Directory which is published annually by Deep End Services and the BGRA.

Travelling interstate for major projects has allowed Cody to gather an extensive knowlege of retail networks, shopping centre locations, growth issues and retail and residential analysis across the country.

Cody continues to gain further experience and knowledge working at Deep End Services, focusing on retail and residential development, location-based services, demographic forecasts and financial services.
